Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurates new IT building

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has on Monday inaugurated the state-of-the-art IT building of Cyberpark Kozhikode – ‘Sahya’, a 2,88,000 sq.ft IT building built in 5 acres of SEZ land.

Inaugurating the building, Pinarayi Vijayan said that with the Cyberpark becoming operational, a new phase of IT growth in the region has got underway.

The new building will provide employment to over 2500 IT professionals and will generate over 7500 indirect job opportunities. “The LDF government had promised to create one crore sq.ft IT space during its tenure, and in the first year itself we have delivered 17.5 sq.ft IT facility with the inauguration of Sahya in Kozhikode, Jyothirmaya in Infopark and the remaining in different IT parks”, the Chief Minister said.

In the past year, many people-friendly IT initiatives have been implemented in the State, he said. Declaring Internet as a basic right of the people of Kerala, a tate-wide optic fibre cable is being laid for faster internet connectivity. This Rs. 1000 crore project will be completed within next 18 months. The government is also planning to set up 1000 wi-fi hotspots and the tendering process for this will be completed in a couple of months, he said. He added that the work in the IT parks in Kannur and Kasargod are progressing at a good pace.

Kozhikod is also home to UL Cyberpark, which has an IT building of 5 lakh sq.ft with 24 companies operating from there. Kerala government manages all the infrastructure of UL Cyberpark as well.

Calicut Forum for IT, a group formed by 40 IT companies based out of Kozhikode are also very active in promoting Kozikode as an IT destination.
