Kerala CM Oommen Chandy cancels visit to unveil Rajiv Gandhi statue

UDHAGAMANDALAM: Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy cancelled his visit to this tourist town to unveil a bronze bust of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi due to heavy fog here.

Congress party sources said that Chandy arrived here by helicopter for the function this afternoon, but heavy fog made it difficult for the chopper to land, following which he cancelled his visit.

Meanwhile, 16 activists of Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhakam waiting along the route to show black flags to Chandy over the Mullaperiyar dam issue, were arrested, police said.
