Kerala: Christians observe Good Friday with piety
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Commemorating the sufferings and crucifixion of Jesus Christ, Christians today observed Good Friday with the faithful thronging churches across the state in large numbers to attend special prayers and services whilst observing fast to mark the day.

Depicting the final hours of Christ, 'way of the cross' processions were taken out under the aegis of various parishes across the state.

Bearing symbolic wooden crosses, devotees walked several kilometres commemorating the final moments of Christ.

Thousands of pilgrims carrying heavy wooden crosses trekked to St Thomas church, located atop the hillock at Malayattoor in Ernakulam district, believed to have been sanctified by the visit of apostle St Thomas, who preached the message of Christ in India.

Special 'Good Friday' services were held at all major churches, including St George Orthodox Syrian Cathedral and St Joseph Metropolitan Church here.

Good Friday is followed by the celebration of Easter on Sunday that commemorates the resurrection of Christ.
