He was 66 and leaves behind his wife and two sons. Condoling his death, AK Antony said Karthikeyan's death was a big loss for the party and the state.

Kerala Assembly Speaker G Karthikeyan passes away
KOCHI: Kerala Assembly speaker and senior Congress leader G Karthikeyan, 66, died at Bengaluru on Saturday morning. He was undergoing treatment for liver cancer at a hospital in the city.

He was power minister in the Congress ministry headed by AK Antony in 1995 and the civil supplies minister in the ministry, again headed by Antony in 2001. He had been elected to the state assembly six times starting from 1982. His only loss was in 1987. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
