Gustavo de Aristegui today said there is a lot of "hunger" for learning Spanish language here and that his country is in talks with the Union HRD Ministry to introduce Spanish at the higher secondary level in schools in the country.

MUMBAI: The Ambassador of Spain in India Gustavo de Aristegui today said there is a lot of "hunger" for learning Spanish language here and that his country is in talks with the Union HRD Ministry to introduce Spanish at the higher secondary level in schools in the country.

The Spanish Ambassador was speaking to the Governor of Maharashtra Ch Vidyasagar Rao at Raj Bhavan here.

Aristegui told Rao that his country is also keen to establish a Spanish Department either in the Savitribai Phule University of Pune or in the Mumbai University that would provide students Diplomas of Spanish As a Foreign Language.

The Governor welcomed the suggestion of the Spanish Ambassador, a Raj Bhavan official said.

Various issues of bilateral interest between India and Spain were also discussed at the meeting also attended by the Consul General of Spain in Mumbai.

The Spanish diplomat also informed the Governor that the famous Spanish football team, Real Madrid would be playing its first match in India in January and added that the venue could be either Delhi or Mumbai.
