New Delhi: Veteran socialist and long-time aide of Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, KC Tyagi, resigned from JDU on Tuesday. The resignation comes at a time when Kumar has been elected to the Rajya Sabha.

Tyagi was one of the founding members of JDU in 2003. In his resignation letter, Tyagi says his respect for Kumar "remains as firm as ever". "My respect for Nitish Kumar, who remained my comrade for close to half a century, also remains unchanged," he wrote.

Tyagi, who previously served as the party's chief general secretary and political adviser, emphasised his commitment to the downtrodden and peasants. Tyagi informed that he has convened a meeting of like-minded friends here on March 22 and his future course of action would be decided after the gathering. In September 2024, JDU had appointed Rajeev Ranjan as the party's chief spokesperson in place of Tyagi.

After this, Tyagi regularly appeared on TV channels and expressed his views. JDU recently distanced itself from some of his remarks relating to the Israel-Palestine war.
