PATNA: Senior JD(U) leader K C Tyagi was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Bihar today.

This was informed by the state assembly secretary-cum- returning officer Phul Jha.

Tyagi, considered a close aide of the JD(U) president Sharad Yadav, was declared elected at the end of the deadline for withdrawal of nomination as he was the sole candidate in the fray.

He will be a member of the Rajya Sabha till July 7, 2016. The Rajya Sabha seat had fallen vacant following the resignation of the disgruntled JD(U) MP Upendra Singh Kushwaha last month.
