KC seeks rail corridor from Mumbai to Kanyakumari

Kerala Congress (J), a partner in the ruling LDF, on Friday asked the Centre to sanction a High Speed Rail Corridor from Mumbai to Kanyakumari in the coming railway budget.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Congress (J), a partner in the ruling LDF, today demanded that the Centre sanction a High Speed Rail Corridor from Mumbai to Kanyakumari in the coming railway budget.

Addressing a press conference at the end of a Yatra taken out by his party from Mumbai to Kanyakumari in support of the demand, party leader P J Joseph said a memorandum signed by 40 MPs from southern states had been submitted to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

A comprehensive transport network with focus on rail and road development was very much needed in the state with the coming up of the international container terminal in Kochi, he said.

He also alleged that Centre was showing "injustice" to Kerala by not sanctioning enough funds for road development.
