Kazakhstan foreign policy remains unaffected despite President's voluntary resignation: Ambassador to India

"We emphasize that with the departure of President Nazarbayev, the foreign policy of Astana remains unchanged. Kazakhstan firmly committed to its international obligations," the Ambassador noted.

Kazakhstan's envoy to India Bulat Sarsenbayev termed the voluntary resignation of the President was a historical moment for Astana.
The voluntary resignation of NursultanNazarbayev from the presidency is a historical moment for Kazakhstan as he laid down foundation for the modern state, according to Ambassador of Kazakhstan to India Bulat Sarsenbayev.

"Over the years of his presidency much has been achieved: the economy of Kazakhstan grew by 15 times, and household incomes by 9, which made it possible to reduce the poverty level by almost 10 times; state borders are defined; the solid legislative basis has been created, the country’s banking and financial systems have been strengthened; adopted national currency," the Ambassador noted in a statement.

"Kazakhstan has become known in the world as a stable, peaceful, tolerant and secular state with a fast-growing economy, and also received recognition from the international community through its foreign policy initiatives. He has laid a solid foundation of stability and harmony in Kazakhstan’s society."


On 19 March Nazarbayev in his televised address announced his resignation from the head of state.

Nazarbayev will retain three important posts: the Chairman of the Security Council; Head of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan; Member of the Constitutional Council.In addition, he remains as the Chairman of the ruling “Nur Otan” party.

In accordance with the Constitution of Kazakhstan, the powers of the president for the remaining term are transferred to the Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan (upper house), Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev.

"At the same time, we emphasize that with the departure of President Nazarbayev, the foreign policy of Astana remains unchanged. Kazakhstan firmly committed to its international obligations," the Ambassador noted.
