Kashmir under curbs for 2nd day after protests over Khamenei killing
Srinagar: Restrictions continued in several parts of Kashmir for the second consecutive day on Tuesday following massive protests across the Valley against the killing of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Educational institutions remained closed, businesses shut and traffic was sparse. The J&K government has informed that all schools and colleges will remain shut across Kashmir Valley till March 7. As per official orders, mobile internet speed will remain restricted to 2G till March 4 evening. Protests were held at some places but the situation remained largely peaceful as the administration and some political leaders urged people, mainly in Shia-dominated areas, to maintain calm and not to engage with the forces on the streets. Officials said precautionary restrictions are likely to continue till March 4 in some parts of the Kashmir Valley.

All major roads in Srinagar remained barricaded and concertina wires were spread to thwart any movement of protesters. The clock tower in Lal Chowk, where thousands of people had gathered on March 1 to protest the assassination of Khamenei and attacks on Iran, remained barricaded for the second consecutive day.

J&K police have registered a case at the cyber police station in Srinagar against some electronic and social media platforms following the incidents on March 2. Following this, social media pages of some prominent news organisations were taken down or blocked, which was protested by the political leaders including Mehbooba Mufti and Sajad Lone.

J&K LG Manoj Sinha chaired a security review meeting to deliberate on the prevailing law and order situation in the UT.
