Kashmir recruitment case: NIA Court awards life imprisonment to 10

KOCHI: The NIA Court has awarded life imprisonment to 10 of those accused in the Kashmir recruitment case, a case which involved recruitment of Keralites to Kashmir for terror activities. NIA Court judge S Vijayakumar awarded double life imprisonment to three others in the case. The 10 accused who were awarded life imprisonment also include one of the key LeT man in south India - Thadiyantavide Nazeer.

The three who have been awarded double life imprisonment are Sarfaraz Nawaz, Abdul Jabbar and Sabir P Buhari. It was in October 2008 that the security forces in Kashmir realised that there were youngsters from Kerala among those who were shot down by them. While four Keralite youth were killed in the Kashmir, a fifth one escaped but was later arrested by the NIA from Hyderabad. It later found the youngsters were recruited from those who joined for religious studies in Kerala.
