Kashmir India’s internal matter: Bangladesh Foreign Minister tells Pak FM

Bangladesh maintains that the abrogation of Article 370 by the Indian government is an internal issue of India, said the foreign ministry, sharing Bangladesh's position on the issue.

NEW DELHI: Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen has told his Pakistani counterpart Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi that India’s decisions on Kashmir are purely internal matter when the latter telephoned Momen on Wednesday to discuss the issue.

Bangladeshi political community and civil society are of opinion that the past history is resurfacing with the Pakistan Foreign Minister seeking cooperation from Bangladesh over Kashmir issue.

Bangladesh’s ties with Pakistan have been lukewarm and touched a low under the current Sheikh Hasina government which has strong position against Pak Army’s genocide in 1971 against population of then East Pakistan.


Pakistan was also involved in the conspiracy, that resulted in the killing of Bangabandhu and most of his family members on Aug, 15, 1975.

Bangabandhu’s two daughters—Sheikh Hasina, currently Prime Minister of Bangladesh, and Sheikh Rehana—survived as they stayed abroad at that time. But Pakistan had even hatched conspiracy to kill them abroad.

Pakistan till now has not formally sought apology over the war crimes in 1971.

Senior Dhaka based scribe and former freedom fighter Farazi Ajmal Hossain is of opinion that Bangladesh should sever diplomatic ties with Pakistan.

Bangladesh earlier described Jammu and Kashmir as an internal issue of India.

Bangladesh maintains that the abrogation of Article 370 by the Indian government is an internal issue of India, said the foreign ministry, sharing Bangladesh's position on the issue.

It said Bangladesh has always advocated, as a matter of principle, that maintaining regional peace and stability, as well as development should be a priority for all countries.
