CBI on Monday questioned Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay in connection with the Karur stampede case.

Among other things, the Tamil superstar was questioned about a seven-hour delay in reaching the rally venue in Karur on September 27, which allegedly resulted in crowd swelling beyond manageable levels, leading to stampede that caused 41 deaths, people in the know said. Vijay reached the CBI headquarters here at around 11:30 am.

CBI is likely to file its charge sheet in the case after questioning him. It has already quizzed several TVK office-bearers. It had quizzed Karur collector M Thangavel last month.

'Jana Nayagan' in Apex Court

Meanwhile, the producer of Vijay-starrer Tamil film 'Jana Nayagan' moved SC on Monday for the release of the movie. It challenged an interim order of a Madras High Court division bench, staying a single judge bench's direction to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to grant certification for the film.

The movie, considered to be Vijay's last film, ran into trouble as the CBFC chairperson on January 6 decided to refer the film to its revising committee. The movie was slated for release on January 9.
