Karnataka's offer for Nano
Karnataka ready with offer for Tata Motors immediate possession.
Crucially, the minister also said there would be no opposition from land-owners and opposition political parties if the Tatas decide to make the worlds cheapest car in the state.
I dont see any opposition from political parties as this is uncultivable, arid land, Mr Nirani remarked. We are prepared to offer them all necessary support for the Nano project. They have to approach us, and we will take it forward and set up a meeting with the chief minister (BS Yeddyurappa) if necessary.
The government has identified three potential sites in the northern Dharwad district, he said, but declined to identify the locations. Mr Nirani, however, revealed that it was uncultivable land close to the highway. Tata Motors has said that it will need about 1,000 acres to accommodate the Nano factory as well as vendors for the project.
Dharwad an initial contender for the Nano factory before it lost out to Singur is seen as the most likely location if a deal is struck. The Tata Groups construction equipment making unit, Tata Telcon, possesses around 300 acres and the Tata-Marco Polo bus-making joint venture has an additional 600 acres in the area.
