Karnataka’s discharge outnumbers new cases, Kerala records highest discharge

In a major relief, the case fatality rate has dropped to 0.79% even as the number of daily covid tests has touched almost one lakh mark.

The discharge of Covid-19 patients in Karnataka outnumbered new admissions on Sunday. While the state reported 9523 new cases, there were 10,107 discharges bringing some relief to healthcare officials. The hospitals also reported 75 covid deaths. The total active cases in the state have risen to 1.20 lakh.

Bengaluru Urban district reported 4623 cases, along with 24 deaths. The district reported 2656 discharges. Kalaburgi reported 81 new cases, while discharges were 10 times higher. In Uttara Kannada district, too, the number of discharges at 597 was more than four times of new cases at 115.


Kerala recorded the highest single day recoveries of 8924 Covid-19 patients on Sunday, while reporting 9347 new cases. Of the new cases, 8,216 were due to local transmission while the source of infection for 821 was unknown. About 105 healthcare workers were among those infected through contact.
