Karnataka's coronavirus tally nears 2.5 lakh with 8,642 new cases; recovery rate now 65%

Bengaluru: Karnataka on Wednesday reported 8,642 cases of Covid-19 and 126 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 2,49,590 and death toll to 4,327, the health department said.

The state saw an increase in cases compared to the previous day when the numbers were fewer by almost 1,000. Although the state has continued to report an increase in recoveries, it was less than the new cases reported on Wednesday, unlike the previous day when recoveries were more than new cases. Karnataka’s recovery rate now stands at 65% and Bengaluru’s at 63%.

Of the fresh cases reported on Wednesday, 2,804 are from Bengaluru Urban. The capital city also witnessed a rise in deaths with as many as 56 fatalities reported in the past 24 hours.


As on Wednesday, the number of active cases in the state was 81,097, of which 33,280 were in Bengaluru.

Covid results now online
The state government has launched an online system enabling people to easily access their Covid test result from home. The new system will put an end to people who are anxiously waiting for Covid results, from making a trip to the laboratory or to get calls from the government. The portal developed by Covid war room allows people to get their sample result online by just entering their Specimen Referral Form (SRF) ID, a war room official said.
