BANGALORE: Stating that Karnataka is not receiving the same serious attention of the Centre in terms of Central assistance that Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh are getting for the floods and drought situation, the state government has asked President A P J Kalam to intervene in the matter.

It also wants an interim relief of Rs 100 crore to be released.

"The state government is finding it very difficult to cope financially with the flood situation in Krishna and Bhima river basins. While we are grateful to the Centre for its decision to send the Central team, we urge you to kindly use your good office to help us get interim Central assistance to take up flood relief measures on a war footing, as has been done in the case of Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh."

"It may be mentioned here that the Centre has reportedly announced the release of an interim relief of Rs 200 crore each to Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh even before the arrival of the Central team to these states. We feel that on similar lines, an amount of Rs 100 crore should be released as interim relief to Karnataka,'' chief minister H D Kumaraswamy said in a memorandum to the President.

The latter during his visit to the state, inaugurated the National Seminar on Women: Science and Technology organised by the Centre for Women's Studies, Bangalore University and University Grants Commission.
