The governor, in his Republic Day address in Bengaluru, said his state led the country in the IT/BT sector and was emerging as the capital of startups because of its strength in the knowledge and science sectors, good law & order situation and an industry-friendly environment.
The state’s startup policy would take this further and well beyond Bengaluru. The local economy accelerator programme (LEAP) backed by a Rs 1000 crore funding will take technology away from Bengaluru to the rest of the state. The LEAP programme, Gehlot said, was expected to add five lakh jobs over the next five years.
His state, the governor said, has taken some of the most revolutionary decisions in the entire country keeping in mind the health and well-being of women workers. Women workers were now getting paid menstrual leave of 12 days annually.
The southern state has attached top priority to employment generation and to step up infrastructure. The government, in its 2025–26 budget, set aside Rs. 83,200 for capital expenditure, fueling jobs.
In Bengaluru, the government was spending Rs 1.5 lakh crore on mega projects, speeding up development in the coming days. The metro network was being systematically expanded. Water supply to 110 villages has commenced under the Cauvery Phase-V project. Progress has begun on the Bengaluru Business Corridor, and efforts are underway to improve the city’s transport system, the governor said.
TWO MILLION A KHATAS:
The government has given a go ahead for a proposal to facilitate conversion of B khatas into A khatas for properties falling within the limits of the urban local bodies. The decision, Gehlot said, would benefit over 20 lakh people across the state. Alongside, the government’s e-Swathu system was also benefiting countless numbers of citizens.
In a citizen-friendly move, the government said, will also benefit from reduction in building setbacks in sync with the needs of the changing times.
