Karnataka polls may skip changes

Will the Karnataka assembly polls be held before the expiry of six months on May 28 since dissolution of state assembly as mandated in the Constitution remains a mystery.

BANGALORE: Will the Karnataka assembly polls be held before the expiry of six months on May 28 since dissolution of state assembly as mandated in the Constitution remains a mystery,

The three-member election commission led by chief election commissioner N Gopalaswamy, which held a two-day review meeting with senior officials involved in the revision of draft electoral rolls and other top bureaucrats, including Karnataka governor Rameshwar Thakur and his advisors, has, however, cleared the first hurdle by setting March 10 as the deadline for publishing the final electoral rolls.

“We are fully geared to conduct the polls and complete the exercise by May 28, when the state completes six months since dissolution of the assembly on November 29, 2007,” said Mr Gopalswamy.
