Karnataka polls may be delayed till November
Assembly elections in Karnataka may be pushed to October-November if the Presidential notification on delimitation sets the cutoff date before May 28, 2008, when the President’s rule in the state is set to expire, reports Bharati Jain.
As the EC needs five months to update the Karnataka rolls, the publication of final rolls would be possible only by August 31, 2008 and elections can be announced only after it.
This means polling cannot be held before mid-October. A delay in rolls revision and monsoon could further delay the polls until November. Then there is chance of it being clubbed with the assembly polls due in Delhi and certain other states.
