BENGALURU: The Shivamogga district police in Karnataka have registered an FIR on AICC president Sonia Gandhi on a complaint from a local advocate taking objection to her tweet on prime minister Narendra Modi.

Opposition leader Siddaramaiah and Pradesh Congress president DK Shivakumar have urged chief minister BS Yediyurappa to quash the FIR and suspend the police officer forthwith. The advocate, a BJP activist, has filed the complaint with a political motive, they said.

Both leaders justified Gandhi’s tweet on PM Care Fund. “The tweet echoes the public sentiment of our country amidst unprecedented crisis & was intended to initiate dialogue in the public forum regarding the transparency of the PM Cares fund, which is a reflection of healthy democracy,” Siddaramaiah tweeted.
