Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker UT Khader is making arrangements to provide recliner chairs for legislators to rest during the upcoming Assembly session, starting next month, reported ANI.

As in previous sessions, free snacks and meals will be available. To discourage legislators from leaving after lunch to rest elsewhere, Khader has decided to install recliner chairs in the Assembly lounge.

"For this joint budget session, around 15 to 20 recliner chairs will be rented to allow legislators to take short naps after lunch", Khader stated.

Since the Assembly operates for only about 30 days a year, the recliner chairs will not be purchased. Instead, they will be rented for the session and returned once it concludes.

"Several reforms and measures have already been implemented to improve legislators' attendance in the Assembly. This initiative is also part of that effort, and it is expected to further increase attendance," he added.

The Karnataka legislative Assembly session will start on March 3 on Monday at 11:00 am.

Karnataka BJP president BY Vijayendra on Monday expressed concerns over the state's financial health, alleging it is on the verge of bankruptcy. He claimed the government is struggling to clear debts in the transport and energy sectors, blaming the financial strain on its election guarantees, PTI reported.

Ahead of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s March 7 budget presentation, Vijayendra penned an open letter to the CM, warning that Karnataka is heading towards financial collapse. He alleged the government is delaying employee salaries and cited an outstanding ₹7,000 crore debt in the transport department. He also pointed out that Electricity Supply Companies (ESCOMs) are in crisis due to unpaid electricity bills.
