Karnataka Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar on Sunday said he will request chief minister BS Yediyurappa to ban cow slaughter in the state.

“Cow is like a member of the family, and it is a crime to kill cows,” he said after opening a Goshala, set up by a private organisation at Chikkaballapur, the district he is in charge of.

Cow is worshipped in our culture, he said, and felt the need for a detailed discussion in the State Legislature on banning export of beef. “Our party is committed to ban cow slaughter. There will be a decision soon on this,” the minister said, and added his family too had a few cows. Cow dung, he said, acted as disinfectant.
