Bengaluru: Karnataka may go for curfew-like total shut down from Tuesday, as a large number of people defied the existing lock down order and ventured out on streets on Monday.

After chairing a meeting with medical experts, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said that the government will take a call on the total shut down after discussing with the leaders of opposition parties today evening. The state government is likely to issue an order to shut down even essential services like grocery shops, cab and auto rickshaw services by tonight.

Doctors and representatives from the medical fraternity have advised the government to strictly enforce curfew like situation in the state, failing which they predicted that things are likely to go out of hand.

Although the state witnessed a near lock down during Janata Curfew on Sunday, people thronged shops and markets on Monday. At present, the state government has ordered lock down but has barred several essential services in nine districts including Bengaluru.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the chief minister announced that the government has decided to keep Indira Canteens open to serve food to the needy and homeless.
