Karnataka legislature to meet for a week in September to comply with Constitutional obligation

BENGALURU: The state government on Thursday decided to hold a week-long legislature session from September 21 to comply with the Constitutional obligation that the gap between two sessions cannot exceed six months. The government may extend the session by a couple of days if needed, law and parliamentary affairs minister JC Madhuswamy told reporters after a cabinet meeting. Both Houses will meet.

Chief minister BS Yediyurappa has authorised the law minister to discuss with Assembly Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri and Legislative Council chairman K Prathapachandra Shetty on the modalities and precautionary steps needed for a smooth conduct of the sittings in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. There are a few pending Ordinances and Bills that need to be cleared by both Houses of the Legislature.
