The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition that challenged Siddaramaiah’s election as Congress candidate from the Varuna assembly constituency in Mysuru in May 2023.

Justice Sunil Dutt Yadav delivered his judgment on a petition filed by K Shankara, who alleged that the Congress fought elections pledging to implement five guarantees. These promises made by the Congress in its election manifesto amounted to an offer of bribe under the Representation of People’s Act.

The promises came with Siddaramaiah’s consent and amounted to an offer of inducement to vote for a particular party, the petitioner said, accusing the CM of flouting the law.

Shivajinagar MLA Rizwan Arshad’s (Congress) election also came to be challenged on similar grounds. The High Court, however, dismissed the petition in March, last year.
