Karnataka govt revises its controversial order on dress code

BANGALORE: Karnataka government has modified its ' decent dress code' order for its staff, requesting them to maintain its "dignity and decorum" in their attire.

The U-turn came four days after an order specifying certain types of dress for men and women employees came in for flak from employees and women activists.

In its original order, the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms ( DPAR) had illustrated pant and shirt/pyjama/kurta for men and saree or "chudidar" for women.

The revised order issued yesterday said it had been noticed that employees of the state secretariat, specially junior staffers, were coming to office wearing attire that does not adhere to the "dignity" of the secretariat.

Omitting reference to any specific attire, it merely said it was the government's "wish" that the employees come to work wearing "decent dresses that do not come in the way of the government's dignity and decorum."
