Congress on Sunday targeted Karnataka's BJP government and chief minister Basavaraj Bommai for not including a photograph of India's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in the list of freedom fighters in the state government advertisement published in the newspapers. The advertisement had paid rich tributes to major freedom fighters. BJP, however, sought to downplay the issue by saying that the advertisement featured a line portrait of Nehru.

Congress sought an apology from Bommai, saying the people of Karnataka, as well as India, won't forgive the government for the blunder.

Congress spokesman Jairam Ramesh tweeted: "Nehru will survive such pettiness. CM Karnataka, desperate to save his job, knows what he has done is an insult to his father SR Bommai and his father's first political guru MN Roy, both great Nehru admirers, the latter being a friend as well. Pathetic this is."
