Karnataka elections: Here's how key candidates performed

The Congress government was formed in 2013 after it defeated the BJP, JD(S) and the Karnataka Jantha Paksha.​​

The counting now enters the final stretch with Congress staging a minor recovery to push its tally above 70 and keep BJP below halfway mark. But the BJP has nothing to worry as it is well above the 100 mark.
As predicted voters in Karnataka have given a fractured verdict. Though BJP managed to get 100+ seats, it is still short from the majority by few seats. The Congress-JD(S) combine meanwhile has staked claimed to form the government. BJP too has approached the state Governor to form the government. While the situation will be clearer in time to come, let's have a look at the key candidates of 2018 Kartanaka Assembly elections.

*The infamous Reddy brothers are back in business in Karnataka. G Somasekhara Reddy gets Ballari City constituency while his brother G Karunakara Reddy has been elected from Harapanahalli.

*R Ashoka, who was the deputy chief minister under BS Yeddyurappa in 2008, has won the Padmanabhanagar constituency that falls in South Bengaluru.


*T B Jayachandra, the law minister in the outgoing Siddaramaiah govt, has lost the Sira constituency

*Priyank Kharge, son of top Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, has won the Chittapur seat

*HD Kumaraswamy wins from Ramanagaram

*DK Shivakumar, who was the energy minister in the outgoing govt and who is one of the most successful Congress leaders in Karnataka, has won from Ramanagaram.

*BJP heavyweight KS Eshwarappa elected from Shivamogga

*Karnataka Pradesh Congress committee chief G Parameshwara wins from Koratagere

*Siddharamaiah wins Badami constituency, beats BJP's B Sreeramulu. However, Siddharamaiah has lost Chamundeshwari.
