Karnataka confirms four positive cases of Coronavirus

The state government on Monday announced that a software engineer from Bengaluru who recently returned from the USA has contracted the virus.

BENGALURU: A day after Karnataka reported its first case of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), the state confirmed three more positive cases.

Health and Family Welfare Minister B Sriramulu confirmed the development. “Karnataka has reported four cases of Novel Coronavirus. Infected persons and their families are quarantined and they are kept under observation,” he tweeted.

The state government on Monday announced that a software engineer from Bengaluru who recently returned from the USA has contracted the virus. The 40-year-old man quarantined and treated at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases (RGICD) in the city is stable, health officials had said.


Along with the techie, his wife, daughter and a colleague too were quarantined in the hospital as they were showing the disease symptoms. Although the government has confirmed three new positive cases, it is yet to confirm if they are the same quarantined persons in the hospital.

The engineer infected with Coronavirus, works for an IT company in Bengaluru. He returned from Austin to the city on March 1 and had connecting flights in New York and Dubai. Health officials said that the person showed no symptoms on his arrival and he even attended work for two days. It was on March 4 that he started showing symptoms of the disease and got himself tested at a private hospital. Three days later, he was shifted to RGICD.
