The government is planning to divest BBMP of garbage-related tasks like collection, segregation, transport and disposal and entrust it into a separate entity. Bengaluru, the chief minister said, was home to one-sixth of Karnataka’s population, and accounted for half of the state’s GDP.
The city is home to about 1.25 crore people, and has 84.5 lakh vehicles, causing both congestion and pollution. The government has identified 12 arterial roads in Bengaluru including ring roads that have a very high density of traffic flow for rapid improvement. The government will uplift these roads by building elevated corridor wherever necessary, he said.
To make the life of commuting public easy, the government will step up the carrying capacity of Namma Metro from the present seven lakh commuters to 10 lakh by 2022, the chief minister added. The government, he said, has targeted to complete the 148-km suburban rail project in six years.
