Karnataka: BJP govt to seek trust vote

Gowda summoned senior party leaders, including his son and former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy, state unit president Merajuddin Patel and others to review the situation in the backdrop of BJP rejecting its conditions.

BANGALORE: The BJP government in Karnataka appeared headed for a crisis ahead of the confidence vote to be sought by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa as the saffron party and its ally JD(S) remained sharply divided on the issue JD(S) demand for an 'MoU' on power-sharing.

"JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda is still adamant that BJP accept the party's conditions. As a result, the crisis is continuing. However, talks will also continue to find a solution," JD(S) Spokesman Y S V Datta said here.

Contrary to JD(S)' claim, BJP has maintained that there was no scheduled meeting between it and its partner as of now.

Gowda summoned senior party leaders, including his son and former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy, state unit president Merajuddin Patel and others to review the situation in the backdrop of BJP rejecting its conditions and refusing to ink the Memorandum of Understanding.

The deadline set by JD(S) for BJP to sign the MoU ended on Sunday.

JD(S) will be holding its Legisalture Party meeting on Monday to take a final decision on whether to support Yeddyurappa in the vote of confidence.
