GUWAHATI: 17th Gyalwang Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje's visit to Arunachal Pradesh is likely to irk China. This is Dorje's first visit to Arunachal Pradesh. China claims Arunachal a part of its own territory.

Dorje arrived on December 1 and was accompanied by MHA Advisor, Amitabh Mathur. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu accompanied him from Guwahati airport.

The government is terming his visit as purely spiritual. He visited the famous Tawang monastery.

Khandu said that Buddhist population of state wanted him to visit and Karmapa accepted the invitation. “Karmapa is on five day visit. Karmapa and Dalai Lama has been accorded right by the Government of India to roam freely in India and it is our internal matter and China must not meddle with it.”

The 14th Dalai Lama has confirmed his visit to Arunachal Pradesh in the second week of March 2017. In 2009, China had opposed Dalai Lama’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh.
