Karachi airport attack: Mock drill conducted at IGI airport
NEW DELHI: In the wake of the recent attack on Karachi airport, a multi-agency security mock drill was today carried out at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here.

The drill involved swift operational movement of commandos of the National Security Guard (NSG), CISF and other airport security officials in the wake of a probable attack or a hijack like situation at the highly sensitive facility, thronged by thousands passengers. The exercise went on for about an hour and it concluded swiftly and smoothly, sources involved in the drill said.

"The aim was to check the preparedness and coordination between all the security agencies deployed on the airport which includes the CISF, NSG, Delhi police and other civilian component of airport defence. The objective was to respond as one unit in the wake of a Karachi airport like attack," the sources said.

A Crisis Management Group (CMG) was also activated during the drill period which observed the activities of the units working on ground, the sources added.

The Union Home Ministry, few days back, had alerted all the airports in the country in the backdrop of the attack in the port city of Pakistan after which vigil at these air facilities has been heightened.
