Kanimozhi, Sushmita Deb, Dola Sen among 19 Rajya Sabha MPs suspended for a week

TMC's Sushmita Deb, Santanu Sen, Dola Sen and DMK's Kanimozhi were among 19 other MPs who were suspended for remaining part of the week for misconduct and sloganeering, as per media reports.

Proceedings in Parliament remained paralysed for another day due to the suspension.

The government on Monday cracked the whip against protesting Lok Sabha MPs by pushing through a motion to suspend four opposition MPs for the remaining period of the monsoon session.



The MPs suspended for "unruly protests, including carrying placards" in the House were Manickan Tagore, Jothimani, TN Prathapan and Ramya Haridas, who were part of the opposition protest and sloganeering in the Well of the House over inflation and some GST rates.

The resolution was moved within an hour of Speaker Om Birla warning protesting opposition MPs that carrying placards was against rules and those insisting on doing so after 3 PM may have to go out.

Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha saw repeated adjournments as opposition members stuck to their demand for suspending all business and holding an immediate discussion on price rise and GST hike while the government maintained that it was ready to discuss the issue once Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman recovers from COVID-19.
