Kangana Ranaut slams Shankaracharya's 'betrayer' remarks on Eknath Shinde: Golgappas or Governance?
In Maharashtra's political stir, Kangana Ranaut defends Eknath Shinde amid Hindu principles controversy sparked by Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati. Shinde's alliance shift from MVA to BJP after coalition collapse draws sharp criticism and debat...

The backdrop to this controversy lies in the collapse of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition government led by Uddhav Thackeray in June 2022. Eknath Shinde's departure from the coalition and subsequent alliance with the BJP to form a new government stirred significant debate and dissent.
Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati, during his visit to Mumbai at the invitation of Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray, expressed deep disappointment over what he termed as a betrayal within the political framework. He emphasized, "In Hinduism, betrayal is considered among the gravest sins. Those who betray cannot truly be Hindu."
The spiritual leader's comments echoed sentiments shared during his interaction, where he expressed profound concern over the implications of political defection within the realm of religious teachings and public morality. His words resonated with a section of the public, reflecting ongoing debates about ethical governance and religious interpretations.
"We conveyed our anguish over the betrayal to Mr. Thackeray. Our sorrow will persist until he resumes his position as Chief Minister," Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati stated, underlining the emotional undercurrents that continue to influence public sentiment.
Moreover, the impact of these political developments was palpable in recent electoral outcomes, where the Opposition INDIA bloc gained significant ground, securing 30 seats—a notable increase of 21 seats—while the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) suffered losses, managing only 17 seats, down by 20 from previous figures.
Reacting to the criticism, Kangana Ranaut defended Eknath Shinde's decisions, highlighting the practicalities of political alliances and the historical precedents of party divisions. "In politics, alliances, splits, and realignments are not only normal but constitutional. The Congress party itself witnessed divisions in 1907 and 1971," she remarked.
Ranaut also took issue with Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati's assertions, stating, "Shankaracharya ji has misused his religious influence and teachings. Religion teaches us that when leaders exploit their positions, it is the ultimate betrayal."
The controversy has sparked wider discourse on the intersection of political maneuvering and religious ethics in Maharashtra's governance landscape. It underscores ongoing debates about the integrity of political actions within the framework of Hindu principles and public accountability.
