PONDICHERRY: Podicherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy has sent a letter to Lt Governor Mukut Mithi recommending the induction of Congress whip and Bahoor MLA K Kandasamy into the territorial cabinet, Raj Nivas sources said on Thursday.
The letter sent yesterday has been forwarded to the Union Home ministry for approval, the sources said.
As per tradition, Podicherry cabinet has six members, including one from a reserved constituency.
One berth fell vacant after P Angalane, representing Tirubuvanai reserved constituency, quit the cabinet in October last.
Kandasamy is the only remaining Scheduled Caste MLA of the ruling party. He had also been minister in the Congress government of 2000, headed by P Shanmugham.
After receiving approval from the Centre, Rangasamy was likely to formally announce his name, sources said adding the swearing-in ceremony was likely to take place within a few days.
According to sources within Congress party, talks were going on to decide the next party whip in the assembly.
