Kamal Haasan to contest Tamil Nadu polls; confirms he is in touch with Rajinikanth

Chennai: Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan said he would be contesting the 2021 Tamil Nadu polls and confirmed that he has been in touch with actor Rajinikanth and was aware of his prevailing health condition before he went public with the information.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, the actor said that while he was concerned about the superstar's health, he felt that politics needed more good people.

“We have been in touch... I already knew about his health condition. It is just that he made it public now," the founder of Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) said.


This comes a letter went viral last week on social media wherein it was stated that doctors had advised Rajinikanth against campaigning owing to his health and the current Covid-19 scenario.

He added that he would not hesitate to seek support from the superstar, regardless of whether he floats a political party or not.

Haasan went on to add that more details about which constituency he plans on contesting from will emerge when he signs the election papers.

Further, he added that a lot of people were disappointed with the current political scenario in the State and said that he welcomed such people to join him.

He claimed that MNM may be the third largest party after the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly polls.
