PUNE: Taking advantage of the rift between the Nationalist Congress Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party that triggered the dismantling of the Pune pattern, Congress MP Suresh Kalamdi has made the first move to mend fences with the NCP to share power in the 144-member house of Pune Municipal Corporation.

Mr Kalmadi, whose antagonism towards state minister Ajit Pawar had led to the formation of the Pune Pattern, an alliance between the BJP, the NCP and the Shiv Sena in the PMC, made use of the opportunity at a function and expressed his desire to NCP president Sharad Pawar to join hands in keeping with both the parties alliance in the state and at Mr Pawar, who was on a two-day visit here, shared dais with Mr Kalmadi at foundation-laying ceremony of a state forest department project where the latter made the offer.

Referring to Mr Pawars earlier statement that he had left the matter to the local NCP leadership, Mr Kalmadi said, It will be in the interest of the citys development if the NCP high command advises the local leaders to pursue the political alignment between the two parties already existing in Mumbai and Delhi.

The NCP president, however, chose to ignore Mr Kalmadis overtures saying: This is not the forum to discuss these matters.
