K Chandrasekhar Rao offers to quit post after TRS' poor performance

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) President K Chandrasekhar Rao today offered to quit the post owning moral responsibility for his party's poor performance in the by-elections.

Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) President K Chandrasekhar Rao today offered to quit the post owning moral responsibility for his party's poor performance in the by-elections.

As the by-poll results trickled in, Rao went into a huddle with his close confidants at his Jubilee Hills residence here to take stock of the party's performance.

During the meeting, Rao, who managed to retain Karimnagar Lok Sabha seat with a reduced margin of 15,000 votes, offered to resign, the party sources said.

However, he was being persuaded against quitting the post, sources said.

After forcing the by-elections by en masse resignation over Telangana statehood issue, the TRS managed to retain only seven out of 16 Assembly seats and two out of four Lok Sabha seats.

The sub-regional party, which had banked heavily on the statehood sentiment, suffered a major blow following defeat of a majority of its candidates at the hands of ruling Congress and the main opposition TDP.
