Justice Virender Singh named new Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court
Chandigarh: Justice Virender Singh, the first puisne Judge (senior-most after the Chief Justice) of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, will be the new Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court after his name was cleared earlier this week by the Supreme Court collegium for elevation. The Supreme Court collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India RM Lodha, also “returned” two names of the total 15 recommended by the Punjab and Haryana High Court collegium for elevation to the high court bench. They are senior lawyer Sunil Chadha and a district and sessions judge from Haryana, Manjit Singh.

ET was the first to report earlier this week that the Supreme Court cleared the names of 12 lawyers/lower court judges for elevation.

The list includes senior lawyer Deepak Sibal, cousin of former Union law minister Kapil Sibal. The elevation of Raminder Jain, a senior sessions judge in Haryana, has been “deferred for further consideration”.
