Justice Chandiwal panel submits report to CM, gives clean chit to Anil Deshmukh

The Justice KU Chandiwal Commission, probing corruption allegations against former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh, submitted its report to the state government on Tuesday.

The report was handed over by Chandiwal to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. The 1,600 page report is said to have given a clean chit to Deshmukh, said sources. The Maharashtra government had formed the Commission in March 2021. The Commission was formed to probe the veracity of allegations that Deshmukh had given targets of ₹100 crore from police officers such as Sachin Vaze to be extorted from dance bars and pubs. The allegation was made by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh. Sources said the report exonerated Deshmukh as there was no evidence given by either Singh or Vaze to show that the former minister had given such targets.

The allegation was made by Singh after he was unceremoniously shunted out as the Mumbai Police Commissioner. Singh was shunted out after Deshmukh held the view that Singh had hid facts pertaining to Vaze's role in planting explosives near industrialist Mukesh Ambani's home in February 2021.


Parambir Singh did not testify in the case in spite of being issued several summons. He later gave an affidavit through his advocate who said, "Whatever Singh wanted to disclose has been disclosed to the Supreme Court and Maharashtra Chief Minister. He has nothing further to add."
