Justice AK Ganguly delivers landmark judgments in 2G spectrum case on his last day in office

NEW DELHI: Justice AK Ganguly capped his illustrious career by delivering, along with Justice GS Singhvi, landmark judgments in the 2G spectrum case on his last day in office. They came just two days after his ruling that the government cannot sit on sanction to prosecute public officials in corruption cases.

The schoolteacher who rose to become a judge in the apex court will be remembered for his non-nonsense approach and his efforts to bring justice within the reach of the common man. It was typical of the man to say after his last judgment that he had just done his duty.

The manner in which he chided the government for letting the then telecom minister A Raja continue in office despite grave charges, and making public in open court an anonymous letter alleging that his court was being "managed" before carrying on calmly with the work on hand, is sure to be treasured in the country's judicial folklore.
