Judicial custody of Suresh Nanda, others extended till April 25

A CBI court has extended till April 25 the judicial custody of arms dealer Suresh Nanda, his son Sanjeev and two others in a case of manipulating evidence on alleged kickbacks received in defence deals.

NEW DELHI: A CBI court on Friday extended till April 25 the judicial custody of arms dealer Suresh Nanda, his son Sanjeev and two others in a case of manipulating evidence on alleged kickbacks received in defence deals.

Additional Sessions Judge I K Kochhar sent all the four accused to jail for another 14 days after they were produced before it on the expiry of their judicial custody.

Suresh Nanda, his son Sanjeev, their chartered accountant Bipin Shah and Income Tax deputy director (investigation) Ashutosh Verma were arrested from a Mumbai five-star hotel on March eight.

Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court issued notices to CBI on the bail applications of all the four accused who have approached it following rejection of their plea by the trial court on April five, holding that the accused, if released, could influence the probe which was at the initial stage.

The CBI, which allegedly recovered Rs 55 lakh from Shah's residence after their arrest, accused Nanda of bribing the IRS officer to manipulate income tax records. It also claimed to have recorded 94 telephonic calls among the accused in this regard.

Nanda has been under the CBI scanner for allegedly receiving kickbacks in the Rs 1,150 crore Barak missiles system and Armoured Recovery Vehicles deal.
