Jubilee Hills bypoll result 2025: BRS loses stronghold as Congress’ Naveen Yadav wins Jubilee Hills seat, BJP candidate loses deposit
Vote counting for the Jubilee Hills Assembly by-election commenced Friday amid tight security, with postal ballots processed first. The crucial contest, necessitated by the death of a BRS MLA, sees candidates from Congress, BRS, and BJP vying for ...

BJP candidate Lankala Deepak Reddy, who polled only 17,061 votes, forfeited his deposit and finished a distant third.
Yadav maintained a consistent lead over the BRS nominee throughout every round of counting.
The by-election was held following the death of BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath in June due to a heart attack. The party had fielded his wife, Sunitha, as its candidate.
With the Jubilee Hills victory, the ruling Congress has increased its strength to 66 members in the 119-seat Telangana Assembly.
Celebrations broke out at Gandhi Bhavan, the Congress headquarters in Hyderabad, as Yadav's win became evident. Party workers burst crackers and distributed sweets.
The Congress’ triumph in Jubilee Hills, coming after its earlier win in the Secunderabad Cantonment bypoll last year, is seen as a further boost to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s leadership. While the result does not impact the government's stability, it was viewed as a measure of the ruling party’s popularity.
For the BRS, the by-election was significant as the party had drawn a blank in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls after its unexpected defeat in the 2023 Assembly elections.
TPCC president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud said the bypoll verdict reflects public approval of the Revanth Reddy government. He added that the back-to-back bypoll victories indicate people’s satisfaction with the Chief Minister’s leadership and welfare schemes.
Goud claimed that the Jubilee Hills result shows the BRS has lost relevance after failing to retain the seat, and predicted that Congress would win 100 of the 119 seats in the 2028 Assembly elections.
BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, however, said the result clearly establishes the BRS as the main alternative to the ruling party. He asserted that the party had effectively highlighted the Congress government's shortcomings over the last two years, noting that the Congress did not win a single bypoll between 2014 and 2023 but still came to power in last year’s Assembly elections.
Meanwhile, BJP has alleged that AIMIM had supported the Congress candidate in Jubilee Hills. Notably, the constituency's four lakh voters, around 1.49 lakh are Muslims. BJP leader and Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy also alleged that both Congress and BRS engaged in large-scale distribution of money and accused the state government of not cooperating with the Election Commission, calling for steps to curb money power in elections.
