Journalist detained under National Security Act in Manipur

Kishorechandra Wangkhemcha had questioned the rationale of a rally taken out the death anniversary of Rani of Jhansi and said that that Rani of Jhansi had no relevance in Manipur.

Guwahati: Several people protested in Imphal detention journalist Kishorechandra Wangkhemcha under the National Security Act (NSA).

He is detented despite being release by court. Wangkhemcha was arrested for a video clipping on November 21. The journalist worked for local cable television and was removed from the organisation after his opinionated video went viral.

He had questioned the rationale of a rally taken out the death anniversary of Rani of Jhansi and said that that Rani of Jhansi had no relevance in Manipur.


Wife of the journalist, Ranjita claimed that no reason was given for the arrest of her husband." My husband was released on November 27 and soon after that police raided our house and took him. How democratic it is to arrest someone for expressing ones opinion."

Congress attacked the Bjp led government for arresting the journalist. Congress leader Joykishan Khumukcham said , "let the government arrest me for I have been expressing opinion against the government regularly.

Earlier in August Wangkhemcha was arrested for posting another social media post. These triggered journalist in the state to take out rally and he was later released.

In may this year politician Erendro Leiombam, was arrested for posting a message criticising the government. He had posted a message where he criticised the government for not acting against some elements who posted hate message against Manipur.
