Joint select committee to meet on May 7 to discuss co-operative societies act amendment

The bill could not be passed in the just concluded budget session and was sent to the joint select committee.

MUMBAI: Maharashtra co-operation minister Harshwardhan Patil today said that the joint select committee of both houses of the state legislature will meet on May 7 to discuss the 97th amendment to the co-operative societies act.

The bill could not be passed in the just concluded budget session and was sent to the joint select committee.

Talking to reporters, Patil said the committee will prepare its report by July 15.

"It is necessary to table the report in the monsoon session which begins from July 15 for discussion and the bill needs to be passed," he added.

The new ordinance of the 97th amendment will be promulgated after the governor's consent.

Meanwhile, elections to 30,000 co-operative societies need to be completed between July 1 and December 31, 2013 and the state election authority will be appointed soon, he said.
