Following violence in Manipur’s Jiribam district, a joint meeting between Assam’s Cachar district administration and Manipur’s Jiribam district administration was held at Jirighat police station in Assam’s Cachar. District administration of Cachar has planned to do a house-to-house survey in villages along the border.

Cachar in Assam shares a border with Jiribam. Cachar District commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha, Superintendent of police Numal Mahatta and Additional DC of Jiribam Manoranjan Tokcham and Additional SP Thomas Tokcham held the meeting.

Jha said, “Today, we have met with the Jiribam authority and discussed that peace should prevail here. The situation in Jiribam has been slowly and gradually improving and we have discussed confidence building measures. We have got instructions for house-to-house surveys in border areas, and we have requested them to help us and cooperate with us. Those who have come to Cachar to take shelter after the violence, we request them to return to their home and we have assured them that we will provide full security to them.”

“As a confidence building measure, we have talked with the DCs and SPs of Jiribam. Those who have come to Cachar after the violence, we have been providing full security to them. As the situation has been improving in Jiribam, we are hopeful that the people can return to their home. We will provide full security to the people for their safe return,” said Cachar SP Numal Mahatta.

Jiribam ADC Manoranjan Tokcham said, “It is slightly tense, but it may improve soon because we are taking all possible measures.”

“We like to thank Assam police and the people of Assam for cooperating and helping us in the last one year. We are in constant touch with our Assam counterpart after the violence in Jiribam since June 6. The Cachar side has been peaceful, and no untoward incident was reported on this side and we are hopeful that no problem will happen on this side of the border,” said Jiribam ASP Thomas Tokcham.
