Jobs, Rs 30 lakh, slew of sops for slain scribe's family in Uttar Pradesh

Yadav, who met the wife and children of Singh in Lucknow on Monday, not only promised them the money and government jobs but also permission for an arms license and the Samajwadi pension for the widow. The chief minister, in the meeting that went on for close to two hours, went on to say that those involved in the attack on Singh will be arrested within three days. On their part, the family has reportedly agreed to drop the demand for a CBI inquiry and have instead given their nod for an investigation to be conducted by the local police under supervision of DIG, Bareilly range.
The government has, on top of all this, assured the family that 5 acres of land owned by Singh which the family had got under the Bhoodan movement and had remained under illegal occupation, would be freed and handed over to them.
Singh's son Rahul told TOI, "In our meeting with the CM, we drew his attention towards the role some party leaders had in the entire sequence of events which led to the death of our father. He assured us that the guilty would not be spared and the state government would ensure that an impartial probe is conducted by a team of cops under the supervision of the DIG. We expect justice for our family and punishment for those who have killed our father. In this connection the CM has already promised that persons named in the FIR would be arrested within 3 days. He also asked officials to file a case against persons who had come to our house and threatened us."
This came even as the Supreme Court sought responses from the Centre and Uttar Pradesh government on a plea seeking CBI probe into the alleged murder of Singh, in which UP state minister Ram Murti Singh Verma and five police personnel have been booked. A bench of Justices MY Eqbal and Arun Mishra issued notices to the Union home ministry, the UP government and the Press Council of India (PCI), directing each to respond within two weeks.

On June 1, the Shahjahanpur-based independent journalist was allegedly set on fire by police officials during a raid at his house. He succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment in Lucknow on June 8.
Following the preliminary probe, an FIR was registered against Samajwadi Party minister Ram Murti Singh Verma and five others on the basis of a complaint made by Singh's son Raghvendra.
Following the meeting with the UP chief minister, Singh's wife and elder son Raghvendra, who have been on a dharna at their native Khutahar village, have decided to call off the protest on Tuesday morning.
