JNU row: SC deputes team of lawyers to restore peace in Patiala House court
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday deputed a team of senior lawyers, including Congress leader Kapil Sibal and senior advocates Rajeev Dhavan and Haren Raval, to report on the situation at Patiala House, where some men in lawyers’ robes attacked reporters and JNU student leader Kanhaiya who is facing charges of sedition.

The top court, however, did not direct police to crack down on those involved in the scuffle.

Earlier in the day, the court had dubbed as shameful a similar attack on journalists and students at Patiala House court complex on Monday, when Kanhaiya was to be produced.

A bench comprising Justices Jasti Chelameswar and Abhay Manohar Sapre on Wednesday asked lawyers to desist from taking the law into their own hands. "Let the courts decide if anyone is anti-national or not. No one can take the law into their own hands," Justice Chelameswar said.
